Zone Creations pushed boundaries once again by creating an amazing piece to mark the opening of The Outsider Tarts new shop in Chiswick.
Even though the table posed some challenges, Zone Creations managed to overcome them and create a beautiful end product. The multi striped Corian Table had a large dimension of 965mm tall x 965mm deep x 4115mm long, although this did not prove to be a major problem in Zone Creations large premises.
The outer layer of table was made of different coloured stripes of Corian whilst the inside of the table was made of moisture resistant MDF and stabilised with an MDF and aluminium frame. The bottom panels of the table were finished with mirrored acrylic.
Laser cutting, CNC Routing and Hand sanding were the main techniques used to create the table. The production of the table was made challenging as the Corian was not always made available in a convenient size, this sometimes meant that pieces of Corian had to be bonded to achieve an appropriate length whilst keeping the clean lines of the coloured stripes. The CNC router had to be used to smooth the top surface of the table flat. There were still a few difficulties that our craftsmen had to be aware of such as the possibility of the table cracking and being unstable if mishandled and not constructed with thought and accuracy.
After completion the table had to be craned out of Zone Creations site and transported to the Outsider Tarts shop on a flat bed lorry where our crew helped install the product.
The Corian table was a challenging project for Zone Creations as it has rarely been done in the design world and Zone Creation were extremely happy to be a part of it.
