Working alongside GBH Design Ltd, Zone Creations were asked to produce the three dimensional display units for Puma’s launch of its Urban Mobility limited edition bags at Selfridges. GBH Design are responsible for all of the graphic work for PUMA and were asked to adapt the two dimensional design into some three dimensional display units including a main front window exhibit.
The main theme of the artwork is based on an urban map which needed to be carried through all display items. Zone Creations were supplied with the artwork in EPS format and converted this into a two layer image allowing the intricate machining of several components to give the embossed effect desired.
Using solid gloss white Perspex Zone Creations laser cut all the components and laminated them together to give a solid appearance. Several of the components were less than 3mm in height and were integral to the design, meaning that they had to be carefully machined and applied to the main structures using tweezers.
All edges of the 5 plinths were radiused and highly polished to again enforce the one piece formed appearance specified. The top surface carried the main detail including logos and the map layout whilst the sides were embossed with the Urban Mobility and Puma logos
The main panel exhibit in Selfridges was situated within the TV window and needed to be designed to travel flat pack and be assembled within the tight confines of the space. The graphics were similar to the plinth tops using the urban map design but the logos were applied to the rear of the glass window in vinyl rather than embossed into the panel. The overall display was approx 4m x 3m and encompassed the central aperture for the existing TV. The final effect was a seamless surround for the TV allowing Puma to play their promotional advertising centrally with the brand graphics frame. Zone Creations’ skilled staff installed the window display and also carefully removed it after the event, allowing it to be used again by Puma.
